The television, that box in the
corner of your living room, or as is more the case today, that large
flat panel LCD, or plasma HD Ready TV. When I was a boy it was just a
405 lines picture in black 'n' white and there was only two channels to
choose from: BBC and ITV. Those two channels did not even broadcast 24
hours a day, but went off in the afternoon and late at night. That was
in the 60's. Today in Brittan we have Digital Terrestrial Freeview,
Cable and Sky Satellite TV and can have a choice of over a hundred
channels and can even watch a number of them in 1080 lines of glorious
high definition. In the past fourty years, we have moved from black 'n'
white, to colour, to widescreen and now high definition broadcasts, all
available at the friendly touch of our remote control buttons. The
sound has progressed from mono. to nicam stereo, to Dolby pro-logic and
now even Dolby 5.1 on certain high definition programs, especially
films. At one time it was almost unheard of to have more that one
television, now most people have two, three, or even more. We never
have had so much choice of what to watch and when we want to watch it,
with the progression of the video recorder, to DVD recorder, to
embedded hard driver recorders, making it all so easy for us, albeit at
a financial cost. It sounds great and in many ways it is, but beware,
this wonderful technological achievement of non-stop entertainment has
some very dangerous side effects that few people realise, or are aware
of and that is as you watch it, it washes your brain and the brains of
your family, it brain washes you, as I will now explain:-
When you watch those favourite programs that you love to view, the
information of what you see and hear, passes through two of your
senses, your eyes and ears, direct to your Brain, but what you might
not realise is that it also feeds down into your heart and soul. As you
watch you at times feel happy, or sad and might reach for the box of
tissues when you are moved to tears. Other times what you see and hear
will make you feel angry and at other times you will laugh having seen
something that is funny, or humorous. Then there are times you might
grab the pillow in fear and terror as you watch a terrifying scene,
such might be found in a horror film and at the end one has (but not
always) enjoyed the experience and look forward to it again next time.
Feeling emotions while you watch is one thing, but the side effects go
far deeper than that, because as you watch, the moral centre of your
heart is also effected and this is the part that is dangerous and one
needs to be very aware of, because it can effect your standing in God
and even your Faith in God.
The Bible says: "Be not deceived;
God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also
reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap
corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap
life everlasting." Galatians
6:7-8. Did you know that as you watch the content of the
program, you are as a result allowing and inviting a whole host of
different seeds to be sowed into your heart? What seeds?
As we watch our favourite programs, soaps and films, we expose
ourselves to on-screen violence, murder, lying, jealousy, revenge,
lust, rape, nakedness and immorality and sexually explicit acts and
other perversions and most of us don't even give it a second thought.
Why? It is because we have become so desensitised due to continual
exposure of these things. When you watch something, let's take for
example a scene of nakedness, an advert shows a naked woman taking a
shower, the patterned glass door of the shower distorts her image so
one cannot see her body clearly, but you know that she is naked. If
such an advert had been shown in the 60's, it would have shocked the
public and peopled would have complained. Today people think nothing of
it and we even see explicit sex scenes on television, even with people
of the same sex and people are not even moved by it to complain.
Another example, a cleaning advert showing men dressed as women to
promote a cleaning product, same again, people think nothing of it.
Another advert promoting fabric softener, a young boy pulls a pair of
shorts over his head and enjoys sniffing its sent. And another, a naked
man sitting on a couch enjoying a piece of chocolate. Although the only
the top part of the man is shown visible naked, it gives the impression
that he is totally naked and associates the pleasure with eating
chocolate with sexual pleasure. Again people
just accept it and think nothing of it. These examples were shown in
the UK in prime time viewing before 9pm when children are still
watching. What about violence on TV? We have been exposed to so much of
it over time that it now takes the most horrific potrail of violence to
even shock us, because we have become so desensitised through continual
exposure. And what do we as parents do? We give them games of violence
to enjoy as presents, teaching our young ones that violence is cool,
violence is fun, violence is ok and our children quickly become
desensitised to it from an early age. What about all the cartoons that
contain violence that we allow our children to watch on TV? TV might be
useful as a babysitting tool to keep our children occupied so that we
can make the tea, clean the house, etc, but they are being exposed and
becoming desensitised. Those seeds are being planted into our children
form a very early age and we should not be surprised that society has
turned out to be the way it is today. As parents, we are responsible,
we have done it to our own children and we have only ourselves to blame
for it.
As we watch, we also listen that to that which is spoken with the
tongue: "But the tongue can no
man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." James 3:8. "Be not deceived: evil communications
corrupt good manners." 1
Corinthians 15:33. We listen to all the evil spoken, words that
lie, speak hatred and jealousy, speak revenge and murder and of lust
and we just keep coming back to our favourite soaps and other programs
for more of the same. Even though the soaps are fictional, it is
presented in a way that reflects everyday life of people and people who
are exposed, without realising it, start to mimic it in there own lives
and think it's normal to do so. They have allowed those seeds to grow
in their own hearts and now show all the fruit of unrighteousness
before God. What fruits? The unrighteous fruits of hatred, lies, fraud,
lust, fornication, adultery, violence and so on. And I'm not just
talking about the World, but even 'Born Again' Christians that profess
Jesus Christ as their Saviour. You know the Bible says: "And the disciples were called
Christians first in Antioch." Acts 11:26. Why? Because
they were like Jesus Christ. Did Christ lie? Did Christ commit
Adultery? Did Christ defraud anyone? If Jesus is our example then such
things such not be named, should not be found in us as followers of
Him. He died for us and if we are working the works of unrighteousness,
how dare we call ourselves Christians. Let's us repent of such things
and get right with God, while there is still time to do so. Jesus said:
"A new commandment I give unto
you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love
one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye
have love one to another." Gospel of John 13:34-35.
One of the greatest dangers of television is that it make us lust after
men and women and the things of this World and when we lust, we sin
against God: "But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when
lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is
finished, bringeth forth death." James 1:14-15. "What shall we say then? Is the law
sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had
not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." Romans 7:7. We see a
beautiful woman on TV and lust after her in our hearts and commit
adultery in our hearts: "Lust not
after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her
eyelids." Proverbs 6:25.
Jesus said: "But I say unto you,
That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed
adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:28. There are
those who even lust after those of the same sex: "And likewise also the men, leaving the
natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men
with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves
that recompence of their error which was meet." Romans 1:27. Lust is not of
God but of this World: "For all
that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
1 John 2:16. When it
comes to lust I'm not referring just to men but the women also.
The Television is a very strong delusion, it by clever deception make
unrighteousness appear righteous: Here are some examples: Oh! it's only
a little white lie, it's ok to explore sex and have sexual encounters
until I find the right one for me, everyone else does. We evolved from
monkeys, or a meteorite that contained amino acids, they said so on TV,
even on the News, so it must be true: "And for this cause God shall send them
strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be
damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12.
I include here, for easy viewing reference, The Brain Washer animated
image, to explain it before concluding on this subject:
The brain is immersed in a liquid and is in the process of being
washed. The brain represents our brains as we watch the Television.
Notice the soapy, bubbly surface on the top because television soaps
are amongst the worst when it come to corrupting peoples minds as they
watched them. The bubbles going up are delusions, they look real
enough, but there's no real substance to them, just full of air, full
of lies. Notice the brain is gripped underneath by a hand that is
pulling the brain down towards the red light. The hand is the hand of
the Devil pulling us down into Hell as we allow ourselves to become
corrupted, polluted with the things of this World, through watching all
the filth of this World on our Televisions. Notice that the brain does
not get any cleaner and that is because The Brains Washer is designed
not to take the dirt out, but to put the dirt in, in our minds, in our
hearts, deep in our souls, so that we Sin against God. Noticed the
Pyramid with the single eye, radiating light. This is a representation
of the God of this World and this is the Devil. It moves across the
screen because he controls it all and He is promoting himself and
deceiving the World through the media of Television. The light from the
pyramid only appears to be light, but is in fact darkness and the minds
of the people who watch are being darkened, led away from God and if
nothing is done, they will perish in that darkness, because the Devil
is a liar and there is no truth in him at all, not one little bit: "Ye are of your father the devil, and
the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in
him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar,
and the father of it." John
8:44.
So what do we do? Do we chuck out the TV into the bin? Almost everyone
is addicted to TV to some degree and If you don't believe me, try
switch it off for a full two weeks and you will see for yourself. The
problem is not only with Television, but also with radio, newspapers
and magazines and even the Internet. All of it is under Lucifer's
sphere of influence and control, so what do we do? For some the only
answer will be to get rid of the TV. We could get rid of our TV's, our
radio's, out Internet connection, don't read the papers or magazines,
but I personally don't think this is the answer, as we use these things
to get a sense on how close we are to the return of Jesus Christ and be
ready for His coming. Personally I believe the answer is two fold:
Firstly, WATCH! what you are watching, become aware of the things you
are watching and what your children are watching. If program goes too
far, at least change the channel, or turn off the TV. There have been
occasions where I have stopped watching a TV series altogether because
of the subtle influences it was having on me. I now renew,
re-sensitised my mind to the point that it's like alarm bells ringing
when I see certain things on TV and that helps to protect me from it's
corrupting influence, but even this is not fool-proof and this brings
me to my second point:-
Secondly and most importantly, we need to stay close to God who is able
to keep us from falling: "Now
unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you
faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy," Jude 1:24. Don't let the
Devil in your lives: "Neither
give place to the devil." Ephesians 4:27. Renew your
mind with the Word of God and with the Holy Spirit: "...And be renewed in the spirit of
your mind;" Ephesians
4:23. "This I say then,
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16. "And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove
what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2. Stay focus on
that which is right before God: "Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be
any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8.
Jesus prayed to the father for us: "I
pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou
shouldest keep them from the evil." Gospel of John 17:15. He is
able to keep us from the Evil, but we also need to be aware of those
things we are letting into our lives. Stay very close to God, walk in
the Spirit, know the Word of God and WATCH! Be acutely aware of what
you are watching on television and take action as necessary. God Bless
you as you do so.
